There was a surprise celebration at St Mary’s Church on Wednesday afternoon when I arrived at 2.30pm as ‘ordered’ by Sue.   What a lovely occasion it was.  I was 80 years old on 21st August and many good friends were there to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ and to wish me well.  Thank you so much to everyone for coming and especially to Sue for making me feel so very special.  From Pat Wilsdon

Congratulations to Andrew and Liz McEvoy on the birth of their  son who was born on Wednesday 20th August and is to be called Sebastian Alexander.

Confirmation  Please let Rosemary know if you are interested in preparing for confirmation this autumn.  The next confirmation service is in the Cathedral on November 22nd.

Lord, may I never take the gift of freedom for granted.  You gave me the great blessing of freedom of spirit.  Fill my spirit with Your peace and Your joy.  Amen

Patronal Festival …

Our Patronal Festival is on Sunday 7th September. The Patronal Festival is when we celebrate the patron saint of our church, which in our case is Mary, the Mother of Jesus. We are holding an open afternoon in the church and the churchyard between 3.00 p.m. and 5.00 p.m.  You are invited to visit our beautiful church, where tea and cake will be served.  There will also be stalls selling homemade cards, cakes and crafts in aid of church funds. This is also an opportunity for you to return your Tower Boxes and to collect new ones. The Tower Box scheme is extremely beneficial to our funds and it helps you to find a home for your small change!  If you do not already have a Tower Box, perhaps you would like to consider having one this year. Members of our Flower Guild will be giving demonstrations of flower arranging and there will be an opportunity for you to create your own display.  Copies of the millennium issue of the book about Cubbington Village written by Gus Peppitt will also be on sale, paperback copies at £25 and one hardback copy at £35. We look forward to seeing you at this event.

Heritage Open Days …

The Heritage Open Days is a scheme run by Warwick District Council and will be taking place from Thursday 11th to Sunday 14th September.  Our church is participating in this event and will be open during this period for people to look round the church and learn more about its history.  Refreshments will be available in church on Saturday in church.

Church Choir Coffee Morning

On Saturday 13th September the choir are holding a Coffee Morning in the Village Hall from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.  There will be stalls selling cakes, marmalade, books and hand made cards and there will also be a raffle.  This annual event is in aid of the Church Organ Fund.  Do please support this event, as the organ is a valuable musical instrument, which is a vital part of many of our services.

Harvest Festival …

We shall be celebrating Harvest Festival on Sunday 28th September. The beauty of our ancient church building is enhanced by harvest gifts and floral arrangements. Members of our Flower Guild will be decorating the church ready for the Harvest services, which will be a said Communion service at 8.00 a.m., Parish Communion at 9.30 a.m. and Evensong at 6.00 p.m.

The Harvest Luncheon will be held in the Village Hall on Sunday 28th September, at 12 noon for 12.30 p.m.  Tickets for the lunch cost £4 each and can be obtained in church, or by contacting Sue Simmons on 01926 312319.  Please try to buy your tickets in plenty of time, as this makes things easier for those who will be doing the catering.

Rainbow Time…

On Monday 18th September, all the children who were “signed on” for Rainbow Time were chatting excitedly to their friends as they settled to the task of naming their files and getting their attendance cards stamped.  Then followed the pattern for the following three days:

talks, watching the D.V.D., worksheets, singing, laughing and craftwork of all types.

They created tissue paper flowers, decorated eco-friendly shopping bags, and using “A Load of Rubbish” to make a large frieze. They also made a bird collage from hand printing and sugar mice and other creatures, using sugar fondant paste. Old glass jars with tissue paper stuck on the outside made attractive tea light holders for the garden. Perhaps the most amazing of all were the floral decorations, using old shoes or boots as containers.

All these items were on show at the presentation on Thursday evening to parents and invited guests.

The theme this year was God’s Creation of His beautiful world and how we must take care of it.  We will follow in Christ’s footsteps by loving, caring and befriending our neighbours, showing love towards our families and friends and caring for our environment.

An exhibition of the children’s work is on display in church together with photographs of the events.

Our grateful thanks go to all who attended and worked so hard to make this event a resounding success.

See you all again next year!

Children’s’ Activities …

Sunday School will start again on Sunday 14th September, the Edward Bear Club will start on Tuesday 2nd September and Tuesday Bears will re-commence on Tuesday 9th September.

Sunday School is open to all children between the ages of 3 and 11 years and it meets every Sunday morning at 9.30 a.m. in Cubbington school, except for the first Sunday of the month. The children are then welcome to come into church for a Blessing and also to tell the congregation about what they have learned.

The Edward Bear Club meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month between 2.15 p.m. and 3.15 p.m. for a time of drawing, music making and listening to stories. This club is open to all pre-school age children and babies, accompanied by their parents, grandparents and carers.

Tuesday Bears meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, from 3.45 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.  Children are able to participate in crafts, stories, and creative fun. This club is open to school age children from 5 to 11 years.

On the first Sunday of every month during the school term, we hold a Children’s’ Service in church, beginning at 11.00 a.m. This service lasts for half an hour and includes stories and songs.  Children and adults are welcome to attend this popular service.
